Example Game to use when learning probability: "ELK"

This is a dice game that the students will learn about probability. The students will learn that there is an equal probability of rolling every number of the dice. They will also learn that you should roll every number about every 6 times.
Materials:
  • Dice (1 dice for students under 4th grade), (2 dice for students 5th grade and up)
  • Paper Worksheet
  • Pen / pencil
  • Calculator for students who need extra arithmetic help
Rules:
After every roll of the dice you add that number to your score. If you roll a 1 your score becomes 0. If you are using two dice you only need one 1 to have your score become 0.
Directions:
Each student will have one or two dice depending on their age group or mathematical ability. Each student will roll the dice(s) 10 times. After each roll they will mark down their score on the worksheet provided. After 10 rolls the students will take the final score and move that many pieces on the game board. The object of the game board is to follow the path until you reach the end.
